This picture below doesn't reflect the huge crowd. It was hard to find a seat in the rodeo stands. Hugh and I left early because we were frozen. The temperature outside right now is 53, but that's misleading, as the wind is blowing, too.
Earlier in the day we watched the Keg Hockey games. The picture below is of the championship heat; the Dandy Lions beat the Helena Handbaskets. The Hangovers came in third.
Prior to the hockey game, we watched our ducks in the duck races at the park. One of our three made it to the final heat; however, here it sits (the pink one), still near the starting line, stopping to chat with someone interesting. We could have won $400!!!
At 12 noon today, our day started with the Choteau Community Band's concert (see picture below). We listened and took in the craft show in the park. I bought a large photograph of Ear Mountain and the Agawam grain elevators from a young man who is a local farmer and gifted photographer. He donates the profits of his pictures to humanitarian causes. I carried the picture to another booth, where another local farmer was displaying his handmade frames. He said he'd frame it for me (in walnut!) and bring it to my house, but it might take a few weeks because he's haying right now.
Last night was the kick-off event for the 4th of July festivities. Here Caitie, Meg, and Hugh are watching 8 Party Line, a great bluegrass band which the Jaycees brought to Choteau for a free concert. As was the case tonight, the only problem is that it was COLD! After the concert, Caitie, Hugh, and Meg checked out the Antler Bar- partying with friends until closing. Good thing today's concert started at noon.
